A Case of Bronchial Lipoma

Abstract
Bronchial lipoma is a slowly growing benign neoplasm of the large bronchi which is
characterized by proliferation of mature adipose tissue admixed with bronchial mucus
glands and fibrous tissue.
It is very rare, whereas lipoma of other sites are not uncommon.
As of 1980, 51 cases of bronchial lipomas have been reported in English literature
since first .case was reported on 1854.
They are frequently found on routine chest roentgenologic examination incidentally and
chest X-ray usually shows secondary changes due to endobronchial obstruction.
Bronchoscopic examination may yield the diagnosis of bronchial lipoma but, in general,
open thoractomy is required for diagnosis and treatment.
We report one case of bronchial lipoma in 54 year-old female patient which was
diagnosed with bronchoscopic examination and successfully treated with left upper
lobectomy.
